Abstract:ingilizce özet SUMMARY The clinical meaning of mucinous type of colorectal carcinoma is still controversial. In this study, the clinicopathologic features of 23 mucinous carcinoma of colon and rectum (group 2) were compared with those of 53 ordinary adenocarcinoma (group 1). The rate of patients under the age of 50 was 52,1 % in group 2 and 18,8 % in group 1 (p 0,05). The patients in group 2 tended to present with more lymph node and higher serum CEA levels (p> 0,05). Additionally, 8 patients with Lynch syndrome were same number at two groups (5 in group 1 and 3 in group 2). However, the clinical features of the patients with Lynch syndrome were similar to those of the patients with mucinous colorectal adenocarcinoma. These findings have two clinical consequences. Firstly, if preoperative biopsy of a colorectal cancer shows a high mucin content, surgery may consist of wide exision including adjacent viscera. Secondly, this histopathologic type must dictate that postoperative surveillance must be conducted very meticulous. 21
