Özet

Among N-heterocyclic compounds, imidazoles and benzimidazoles are very important compounds with their interesting

framework. These compounds are mostly found in alkaloids and show quite good biological activities as antimicrobial,

antitumor, antiviral, anti-inflammatory and enzyme inhibition. Omeprazole, proton pump inhibitors, and albendazole, an

antihelmintic, are two examples of many drugs that have imidazole framework in their structures [1-5]. We have synthesized novel 2-methylimidazolium salts; their structures were elucidated by using different spectroscopic

techniques (1H NMR, 13C NMR, and FTIR). The novel 2-methylimidazolium salts 1-5 have been synthesized from the methyl,

benzyl and decyl substituted 2-methylimidazole with 3-bromopropionic acid and 4-(bromomethyl)benzoic acid at 90 °C-110

°C for 24 h. The novel 2-methylimidazolium salts were obtained between 60 % and 75 % yield.
