N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have been among the most widely used and investigated classes of ligands in organometallic
chemistry and catalysis in the last few decades due to their unique tunable steric and electronic properties [1]. NHCs are strong
σ-donating and weak π-accepting ligands, and they form stable NHC complexes with transition metals [2]. The most of NHCs
have involved five-membered imidazol-ylidene, benzimidazol-ylidene and imidazolidin-ylidene-based ligands have also been
reported [3]. The structures of such compounds are elucidated by diverse spectral analysis. Herein, we have reported the synthesis and the characterization of new 4-acetylphenyl substituted imidazolium salts. Also, the
imidazolium salts containing 4-acetylphenyl group 1a-f have been synthesized from 4-(1-H-imidazol-1-yl)acetophenone and
various alkyl bromide at 80 °C over 24 h. The chemical structures of all compounds were confirmed by using 1H NMR, 13C
NMR, FTIR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis techniques.
