Abstract With the rapid progress of digitalisation in today's world, access to information and production has become easier. However, this situation has also brought new problems such as information pollution, ethical problems and labour theft. In this context, digital literacy is important for individuals and societies to gain the skills to access, evaluate, produce and share accurate information safely in the digital world. Digital literacy includes not only how to use technology tools, but also a wider range of skills such as critical thinking, access to information, evaluation, production and effective communication. In this study, issues such as what digital literacy is, its importance, its differences from media literacy and its future are examined in depth. Digital literacy enables individuals to be more successful in all areas of life, from education to business life, from social relations to citizenship duties. Digital literacy helps individuals to combat information pollution, misinformation and disinformation they encounter in the digital world. In addition, digital literacy enables individuals to act safely on digital platforms, protect their personal information and cope with negative situations such as cyberbullying. Digital literacy also contributes to the development of individuals' creative thinking and problem-solving skills. In order to raise awareness of individuals and society in digital literacy, important points in the use and consumption processes of new media technologies are one of the topics of the study.In conclusion, digital literacy has become one of the most important elements for individuals and societies to use media consciously. Developing digital literacy will increase individuals' access to information, strengthen their critical thinking skills and enable them to become more active and conscious citizens in the digital world.
