Ders kitapları, tematik bir yaklaşım çerçevesinde metinlerin bir araya getirilmesiyle oluşan öğretim araçları olarak tanımlanabilmektedir. Ana dili öğretimi açısından bakıldığında Türkçe ders kitaplarında hedef sınıf düzeyinin yaş ve gelişim özelliklerine uygun farklı türlerde metinlerin yer aldığı söylenebilir. Bu bağlamda Türkçe ders kitaplarındaki metinlerin incelenmesi önemli görülmektedir. Araştırmada Millî Eğitim Bakanlığı Yayınlarına ait 7. sınıf Türkçe ders kitabında, "Millî Kültürümüz" temasında serbest okuma metni olarak yer alan Muhacir Osman metninin çeşitli unsurlar açısından değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın amacı doğrultusunda, nitel araştırma geleneği içerisinde ele alınan durum çalışması deseninden yararlanılmıştır. Belirlenen alt amaçlar doğrultusunda araştırma verileri toplanmış ve betimsel analizle elde edilen veriler çözümlenmiştir. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına genel olarak bakıldığında; metnin iç yapı özelliklerinin sunumunda bazı eksiklikler olduğu, metnin okunabilirliğinin Ateşman (1997) formülüne göre "kolay" düzeye, Çetinkaya-Uzun (2010) formülüne göre ise "eğitsel" düzeye karşılık geldiği görülmektedir. Metnin resimlerinin tasarım açısından bazı hatalar içerdiği, resim-metin ilişkisinin bazı noktalarda göz ardı edildiği ve metnin resimlerinin çocuklarda estetik duyarlılığı geliştirmek için yeterli olmadığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Araştırmada metnin özgün hâliyle yapılan karşılaştırması sonucunda; çeşitli farklılıkların olduğu, kısaltma işlemi yapılırken dikkat edilmesi gereken bazı noktaların göz ardı edildiği, ders kitabına alınacak metinlerin nitelikleri bağlamında her maddenin dikkate alınmadığı sonuçlarına da ulaşılmıştır. Son olarak ise ilgili metnin bulunduğu temanın konu önerileriyle ve iletileriyle uyumlu olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
Textbooks can be defined as teaching tools that are formed by bringing together texts within the framework of a thematic approach. From the point of view of mother tongue teaching, it can be said that there are different types of texts suitable for the age and developmental characteristics of the target class level in Turkish textbooks. In this context, it is considered important to examine the texts in Turkish textbooks. In the research, it is aimed to evaluate the Muhacir Osman text, which is included as a free reading text under the theme of "Our National Culture" in the 7th grade Turkish textbook belonging to the Publications of the Ministry of National Education, in terms of various elements. In line with the purpose of the research, the case study pattern, which is considered within the tradition of qualitative research, was used. Research data were collected in line with the determined sub-objectives and the data obtained by descriptive analysis were analyzed. When we look at the results of the research in general; It is seen that there are some deficiencies in the presentation of the internal structure features of the text, and the readability of the text corresponds to the "easy" level according to the Ateşman (1997) formula, and to the "educational" level according to the Çetinkaya-Uzun (2010) formula. It has been concluded that the pictures of the text contain some errors in terms of design, the picture-text relationship is ignored at some points and the pictures of the text are insufficient develop aesthetic sensitivity in children. As a result of the comparison of the text with its original form; it has also been concluded that there are various differences, some points that need to be considered while making the abbreviation process are ignored, and not every item is taken into account in terms of the qualities of the texts to be included in the textbook. Finally, it was concluded that the theme with the relevant text was compatible with the subject suggestions and messages.
