Abstract

In this study, the effect of the Er-substitution on the magnetic properties of Bi2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10+delta (Bi-2223) system fabricated using the glass-ceramic technique has been investigated. Multiphase and complex structural formation was obtained with the Er-substitution. The substitution had considerable effect on the electrical properties compared to the unsubstituted Bi-2223 material. The Tc values of the x = 0.5 and
1.0 sample were found to be 70 K. For the unsubstituted Bi-2223, Jc was obtained to be 105 Acm-2 at 10 K and 0 Oe, however, Jc suppressed with increasing the Er-concentration in the system. It is obvious that the Er ions in the host material do not act pinning centers which improves Jc and do not cause the increase of Jc.
