Abstract

Identifying a living or dead person and revealing the characteristics that will distinguish them from other people is called identification. Determining the identity of a dead person is important for many reasons. These studies are also of great importance in natural disasters such as earthquakes.

In this article, we will explain how identification occurs with hip prosthesis, by talking about the difficulties of the identification process.

Identifying features can be revealed by internal examination of the body. Detection of materials whose serial numbers can be identified, such as implants, ICDs, and prostheses attached to any part of the body, can help in identification. Hip prosthesis and hip implants, which are among the most commonly used materials, are important in this regard. If the implant used has a serial number and is detected, information about the person to whom the implant was installed can be obtained by conducting research. If these serial numbers are recorded by SGK, if there is a hip prosthesis in cases with impaired body integrity or cannot be identified, identification can be made by comparing the serial number with SGK records. For this method to be successful, SSI records must be complete. If the brand of the implant used is known, the relevant company can be contacted.
