Abstract

The N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have had unique properties such as stability to air and moisture, adjustability as

electronically and sterically, and being strong σ-donor and weak π-acceptor [1]. Increasing the popularity of these ligands in

organic and organometallic chemistry is due to the durability of the metal-carbene bond, as well as having thermal and

oxidative stability [2].

Fluorinated compounds are of great importance in medicinal chemistry, material sciences and, agrochemistry [3]. For example,

about 25% of its molecules in the pharmaceutical market are fluorinated compounds [4]. α-Glucosidases play a key role in

carbohydrate metabolism in plants, animals, and microorganisms. It is quite common in microorganisms and has been

characterized by purifying its extracellular, intracellular or cell-bound forms from various bacteria, yeasts, and molds. The

final step of starch degradation by microorganisms is carried out by α-glucosidases [5]. In our study, we have investigated the synthesis and characterization of new trifluoromethylbenzyl substituted

benzimidazolium salts. Additionally, these compounds were evaluated toward α-glycosidase enzyme.
