Abstract

In recent years, the combined use of nanotechnology and textiles has contributed significantly to the development of the textile industry. Nanotechnology offers many innovations for the textile industry, such as antibacterial properties, chemical resistance, wrinkle resistance, drug delivery, durability, water repellency, fire resistance, self-cleaning, UV protection, and flexible electronic circuits in fabrics, thus improving both the functionality and performance of textile products. Nanoparticles have great potential for the textile industry due to their many superior properties. Today, inorganic nanoparticles are used in many applications. Especially silica nanoparticles, which are in the inorganic nanoparticles class, are in almost every field of science and engineering due to their electrical, thermal and optical properties. The unique properties of silica nanoparticles also provide remarkable developments for the textile industry. As a result of the integration of these nanoparticles with textile products, different properties are provided to the fabrics, such as being more durable, lighter, stronger, more corrosion resistant, flame resistant, wrinkle free, water repellent, self-cleaning, flexible electronic circuits and sensitivity to heat and light. Textile applications of silica nanoparticles will be discussed in detail.
