The N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) precursors that have unique structural and electronic properties have attention attracted by chemists [1]. Recently, bis-(NHC)Pd(II) complexes containing these ligands have been synthesized and studies of their catalytic activities in the direct arylation reactions have been published [2]. Palladium-catalyzed carbon-carbon (C–C) cross-coupling reactions are an important application in modern organic chemistry [3]. The direct (C–H) arylation has the focus of attention as an alternative C–C coupling reaction in recent years [4].
Herein, I have reported the synthesis of the symmetric NHC precursor and its bis-NHCPd(II) complex. I characterized the structure of both compounds by using spectroscopic techniques such as NMR, FTIR, UV-Vis, and element analysis. The catalytic activity of the bis-NHCPd(II)complex have been examined for the direct arylation of 2-n-butylfuran and 2-n-butylthiophene with aryl bromides and exhibited excellent activity in this reaction.
