Sanat ve siyaset, insanlık tarihi kadar eski iki disiplin olup zaman zaman birbiriyle etkileşim içinde olmuştur. Bu ilişki, sanat tarihindeki eserlerde net biçimde gözlemlenebilir. Bu makale, sanat ve siyaset arasındaki ilişkiyi inceleyerek Jean-Miche lBasquiat’nın propaganda temalı eserlerini analiz etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Yeni dışavurumcu tarzda önemli eserler üreten Basquiat’nın, bu açıdan ele alınan bir çalışmasının bulunmaması, bu makaleyi literatür açısından özgün kılmaktadır. Makale iki ana bölümden oluşmaktadır: İlk bölümde siyaset, politika ve propaganda kavramları ile sanat-siyaset ilişkisi ele alınmış; ikinci bölümde ise Basquiat’nın propaganda temalı eserleri ayrıntılı olarak incelenmiştir. Sonuç bölümünde ise araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular ve yargılar değerlendirilmiştir.
Art and politics are two disciplines as old as human history and have interacted with each other from time to time. This relationship can be clearly observed in works in the history of art. This article aims to analyse Jean-Michel Basquiat’s propaganda-themed works by examining the relationship between art and politics. The fact that Basquiat, who produced important works in the neo-expressionist style, has not been analysed from this perspective makes this article unique in terms of literature. The article consists of two main parts: The first part deals with the concepts of politics, policy and propaganda and the relationship between art and politics; the second part analyses Basquiat’s propaganda-themed works in detail. In the conclusion, the findings and judgements obtained from the research are evaluated.
