N-Heterocyclic carbene (NHC) precursors have drawn considerable attention in organometallic chemistry. Furthermore, there
have been numerous studies on the medical applications of metal-NHCs for the past two decades. The chelating effect of NHC
precursors with unique sigma donor properties has recently attracted the attention of organometallic chemists. This effect could
be effective on biological activity. In the studies of biological activity related to NHC precursor and metal-NHC complexes,
it is observed that the molecules with bulky and lipophilic properties exhibit higher biological activity. In recent years, because
of their great structural diversity and multitude of chemical properties, NHCs have been utilized in a variety of capacities [1-
5]. In the present study, we have reported the synthesis of the imidazolium salts containing formyl group 1a-d. These salts were
prepared from the 4-(1-H-imidazol-1-yl)benzaldehyde and various alkyl chloride. The imidazolium salts have been
characterized by using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FTIR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis techniques.
