Özet

The traditional educational institutions, Sıbyân schools and madrasahs, continued their activities for many years in Arapgir as in the rest of the Ottoman Empire. With the Tanzimat, modern educational institutions were opened in the province. In this context, the most important of the schools opened at the secondary school level in the 1869-1871 academicyear in the district is Arapgir Boys’ Ruşdiye (Arapgir Boys’ Junior High School). Coursebooks, globes and maps at the school were supplied from the Ministry of Education Library in Istanbul. School staff were paid a certain monthly salary. Over time, the school reached a significant number of graduates. Graduates were given the opportunity to become civil servants in the province. This Development enabled an increase in the interest in the school and thus the school reached a more qualified level. Another result of this Development is thatthe local appointment was increased, unlike the external civil servant appointments made before the school was opened. Thus, the public service in Arapgir gained a stable, that is, sustainable nature. After 44 years of activity, the school was converted into an primary school in accordance with the Education Law dated October 6, 1913.
