Özet

Dissolution properties of ulexite in HCl solutions were investigated by measuring particle size distribution of ulexite in the reaction cell. The measurements were made at certain time intervals without disturbing the suspension and interrupting the reaction. The kinetics of dissolution was evaluated by employing various kinetic models to particle size data, first time in the literature. It was seen that the widely used models did not fit the particle size data reasonably well. On the other hand, the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov (JMAK) reaction model and a phenomenological model were found adequate to fit the data. In order to elucidate the reaction, the raw and treated samples were examined by XRD, SEM and EDX instruments. The results showed that ulexite was not entirely pure, but contains minor amounts of rare boron minerals which could slightly detract the fitting of the models.
