Özet

N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) have been among the most widely used and investigated classes of ligands in organometallic chemistry and catalysis in the last few decades due to their unique tunable steric and electronic properties [1]. NHCs are strong σ-donating and weak π-accepting ligands, and they form stable NHC complexes with transition metals [2]. Although most of NHCs have involved five-membered imidazol-ylidene, benzimidazol-ylidene and imidazolidin-ylidene-based ligands derived from imidazolium, benzimidazolium and imidazolinium salts, six-, seven-, and eight-membered ring NHCs so-called ring-expanded carbenes have also been reported [3,4].

Herein, synthesis of the N-methylphthalimide substituted benzimidazolium salts. The new benzimidazolium salts were fully characterized by using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FTIR spectroscopy and elemental analysis techniques.
