Polysemy can be seen as a phenomenon that arises as a result of the language’s inability to fully reflect emotions or it can also be considered as an opportunity and a stylistic feature that further increases the effect of the word, depending on its place. Poets are masters of words who aim to use this opportunity in the most refined and aesthetic way. The issue of polysemy indicates itself not only in nouns but also in verb usage. In this context, the verbs of imperative are not only used with their first meanings, but can also mean different meanings depending on the context they are in. Shayk al-Islam Yahya, who is one of the most important representatives of classical poetry, realized the possibilities that this expressions added to the word in terms of style and preferred to use the verbs of imperative in his poetry with different aspects than their original meanings. In this study, it will be determined in which meanings the expressions of imperative in the Diwan of Shayk al-Islam Yahya are used and the effect of the preference of the imperative on the style will be examined. Subjective judgments may arise due to the nature of the subject. In order to avoid this, the general style of Shayk al-Islam Yahya, the whole of the poems in which the examples are included, and the unique imagination and image system of classical poetry will be considered in all these determinations and examinations.
